Christopher Badgett has over ten years of experience in music education. He is currently the band director at Lucy Addison Middle School in Roanoke, Virginia. Previously, he served as the choral music director and general music teacher at Amherst Middle School in Amherst, VA. He has also worked extensively with the Amherst County High School Marching Lancer Band, assisting with all aspects of the ensemble for the past five years, including color guard, music, and marching technique.
Christopher holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Lynchburg College (now University of Lynchburg), where he was the principal clarinetist for the Con Brio Woodwind Quintet, clarinet choir, wind symphony, and orchestra. He was also a performing member of the concert choir and percussion ensemble. While at Lynchburg College, he earned recognition in various competitions, including placing third in the 2011 Concerto Competition and being named the state runner-up in the 2012 Music Teachers National Association Competition with the Con Brio Woodwind Quintet. He was honored with the Helen Pesci Wood Award in Music Performance and the Mu Phi Epsilon Senior Achievement Award in 2013.
In addition to his teaching experience, Christopher has conducted research on several topics, including "The Yale Seminar: Changes in the American Music Curriculum," which he presented at the 2013 Virginia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference. He has also researched "The Twentieth Century Clarinet and Techniques of Igor Stravinsky" and "The Mannheim Court’s Influence in the Development of Orchestra Music" at Lynchburg College Student Scholar Showcases. Christopher is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Education at Boston University, with plans to complete his degree in 2026.
Christopher is also a Young Artist for Opera Roanoke where he will sing solo performances in Handel's Messiah and other artistic events. He is also a member of Winds of the Blue Ridge, Southwest Virginia's finest wind ensemble. He has also taught adult and children’s ukulele classes, private music lessons, color guard camps, and instrumental master classes. In 2022, he was honored with the Amherst County Profound Educator Award, given by students who believe he has made a lasting impact on their lives and in 2025 the WSLS and Blue Eagle Credit Union Educator Impact Award
Christopher is a Copeland Artist for Copeland Clarinet Products, representing the company through performance, education, and advocacy of their clarinet equipment. He performs on a Copeland Willow Bb. Check out their clarinets and other products at Clarinets by Copeland.
